Application
Zinc isooctanoate has excellent storage stability and, compared with traditional zinc cyclohexanecarboxylate, features lighter color, less odor, and higher content, making it an upgraded alternative to zinc cyclohexanecarboxylate.
In polyurethane systems: Zinc isooctanoate can act as a catalyst to promote the chemical reaction between alcohol and isocyanate components in polyurethane coating systems, thereby controlling drying performance, improving solvent resistance of the system, and enhancing film hardness. It can be used in combination with organic bismuth. Additionally, it serves as a catalyst for polyurethane reactions and casting.
In the coatings industry: Zinc isooctanoate is commonly found in various air-drying paints, especially suitable for white or light-colored paints. It can reduce the color of the paint film and increase gloss, serving as a substitute for zinc cyclohexanecarboxylate. Moreover, zinc isooctanoate acts as an auxiliary drier in coatings,
working synergistically with cobalt, manganese, barium, and calcium carboxylate driers to promote thorough curing and drying inside the paint film, enhancing water resistance and weather resistance of the coating.
In resins and adhesives: Zinc isooctanoate acts as a curing promoter and catalyst in unsaturated polyester resins, facilitating aliphatic isocyanate crosslinking and shortening curing time. It can also be used together with calcium isooctanoate as a heat stabilizer for synthetic resins.
Other applications: Zinc isooctanoate can also be used as an activator for natural rubber vulcanization, blending paints, enameled wire paints, alkyd coatings, etc. It can serve as a pigment wetting and dispersing agent, reducing pigment absorption of driers and maintaining the drier performance of the coating system.
Additionally, zinc isooctanoate can act as a catalyst for aliphatic polyurethane coatings and elastomers, promoting crosslinking and shortening curing time.
Usage Instructions
When used as a polyurethane catalyst, the addition amount is generally 0.05%-0.5% of the polyol component. It is not recommended to add it to the isocyanate component due to the risk of gelation. Avoid open exposure during use.
